Current status of red mud recycling in Viet Nam and around the world
Bauxite is one of the common minerals on Earth’s surface for processing aluminum and it is one of the mineral resources which has huge reserves in Vietnam. According to the geological survey results, the bauxite ore in our country is widely distributed from North to South with 5.5 billion tons.
Red mud is a waste from Bayer process in aluminum production from bauxite ore. Due to the high alkalinity and the large amounts of metal contained, red mud might cause serious environment pollution if not managed properly. Red mud is considered as a kind of hazardous waste but currently, no country in the world can treat this problemthoroughly
However, due to the components and the properties of red mud, scientists not only in Vietnam but also in the world should conduct researches on how to take advantages of it.
